LAGOS EDUCATION DISTRICT TARGETS MASSIVE ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2017 ACADEMIC SESSION

The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District IV, Mrs. Lola Are-Adegbite has promised not to rest on her oars in the pursuit of academic excellence as the 2017 academic session beckons.

 

Adegbite, who stated this while speaking at the District’s End of The Year celebration held at Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, said the district has already mapped out plans to consolidate on the achievements recorded in the 2016 academic session.

 

The Tutor-General recalled that the District won the annual Head of Service (HOS) Cup Competition, emerged the second position in the Lagos State Arts and Culture Competition, and also took 3rd position at the State’s Spelling Bee Competition among several other awards conferred on the District during the 2016 calendar year.

 

In her words, “we thank God for all we have achieved this year but the coming years would record greater achievements because we have communicated our plans for the coming years to our teachers, parents and even the students and assuredly we are moving on with nothing stopping us”.

 

She gave the assurance that the year 2017 would not only witness tremendous achievements in academics but also in extra-curricular activities like sports, drama, poetry, music amongst others to help stimulate students’ intellectual capacity and put them at par with their contemporaries across the country and globally.

 

Adegbite maintained that the district cannot afford to relax and be comfortable with the feat achieved so far, saying that, “The same way the State government is not relaxing in spite of its commendable performances and success stories in the State’s education administration, Education District IV being a core part of the success story and having done well in the last WAEC results, we will continue to aim high and we cannot afford to be complacent because we are also part of a progressive Lagos”.

 

Adegbite said that teachers, students and parents in the district have many reasons to remain thankful to God considering the ups and downs in the year 2016. “For witnessing the beginning of the year to the end it is worth celebrating and God is the reason for the season because of the love which Jesus Christ has shown to us this festive season,” she added.

 

Also speaking at the event, the Principal of Iganmu Senior High School, Mr. Jimoh Raheem thanked the State Government for providing all facilities and resources needed for a comfortable learning atmosphere for the students.

 

While noting that from whom much is given, much is also expected; Jimoh promised that the support of the State government would translate into better performance among the students in the coming year.

 

He however urged parents to cooperate with the District for another better academic year as the teachers and staff cannot do it all alone.

 

The programme witnessed several performances by the students as participants were thrilled by the district’s mass choir consisting of selected students from all zones of the district showcasing their potentials in drama, poetry and hymns.
