Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode was recently honoured with the Best Tourism Governor Award at the 2017 Nigeria Tourism Award, organized by the Nigeria Travel Week.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Governor, the Acting Commissioner and Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinsola said tourism is one of the sectors that play an integral role in the socio-economy development of any nation.
Akinsola said that tourism if properly harnessed and managed, could contribute significantly to the global agenda of tackling poverty and fostering development especially in developing nations of the world like Nigeria.
According to Akinsola, Lagos State is endowed with natural landscape and topography traversed by the sea, lagoon, beautiful beaches and waterfronts that are unique tourism products yearning to be tapped and developed for the socio-economic transformation of the State.
She reassured that government is determined to maximize the potentials of this sector to boost the State’s economy in terms of revenue generation and create employment opportunities, stressing that the government has an active desire to make Lagos State Africa’s top tourism destination.
The Special Adviser stated further that the ongoing development in Epe and Badagry, as well as the transformation of Onikan axis among several others, speaks to the commitment to make Lagos State a choice destination for tourists and essentially to create the right atmosphere for private investors to take advantage of the opportunities in the tourism industry.
