The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has inaugurated the newly elected executive council of the State Chapter of Nigerian Legion, charging them to be more proactive and strive harder to ensure that Lagos stays ahead of other States in the promotion of the welfare of Legionnaires.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, represented at the inauguration by the State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Abdul-Lateef at event which took place at the Chapel of Christ the Light Hall, Alausa, Ikeja today, said the paramount objective of the Council is to promote the comfort, happiness and interests of the legionnaires, as well as that of the orphans, widows and other dependants of departed service-men.
He advised the elected Council members to operate with the with fear of God, take steps in full consciousness that the mandate they were given was through God and run a very credible and transparent administration that will enhance true love, brotherhood, camaraderie, friendliness, equity, justice and unity among members.
The Governor congratulated the newly elected officers and expressed willingness to always reward novel and outstanding achievements that would ensure Lagos continues to move to the greater level of excellence at all times.
He reiterated the present administration’s commitment to the policy of inclusive governance, stating that the increased recognition being enjoyed by the legionnaires in the State underscores government’s determination at ensuring that its policy of inclusiveness will continue to be strengthened across all sectors.
Responding on behalf of other members, the elected Chairman, Rtd. Samuel Fola Akande said he hoped to build on achievements already recorded by the Nigerian Legion and take into cognizance the advice offered by Governor Ambode to improve the welfare of legionnaires and their families.
Other members of the inaugurated Council include Comrade Muibi Mufutau as the Vice-Chairman and Mr. Babatunde Onashokun as the State Council Treasurer.
