The Lagos State government has enjoined its Public Servants to be more transparent in handling government procurement activities in order to create economic growth opportunities in the country.
The General Manager, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Onafowote Idowu, gave this advice at a two-day workshop organised by the Agency for Accountants, Auditors, Planners and Procurement officers in the civil service.
Speaking at the training themed: “Understanding Procurement Principles and Practices for Non-Procurement Personnel”, Idowu said there was a need for officers involved in the procurement process to be transparent in handling transactions related to the disbursement of public funds.
He stated that public procurement principle is the framework and standard for managing procurement, acquisition of works, goods and services including professional standards within which procurement practitioners’ must work.
The General Manager noted that as practitioners, it is important not only to have a clear understanding of public procurement principles but to internalise them so that they serve as guiding principles in the decision-making process on procurement implementation.
On his part, the Director General, Public Service Staff Development Centre, Mr. Ajose Harrison enjoined the participants to cultivate the habits of knowledge, skill and attitudinal change to improve quality of services as well as providing solutions to stakeholders.
