The Lagos State Government has described human resource development and capacity building as crucial to achieving the success of its T.H.E.M.E.S. Development agenda.
Reiterating the present administration’s commitment to investments in capacity building of its workforce, the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Education, Bar. Tokunbo Wahab, said civil servants are drivers of the government’s policies and are, therefore, vital to the progress of the State.
Wahab spoke on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of a three-day capacity building retreat themed, “Building A Healthy Work-Culture Through Self-Leadership, Synergy and Technical Transfer of Knowledge to Practice”, and held for Management Staff of his Office and Agencies under its purview, at the Jubilee Chalets in Epe.
Noting that public servants are at the centre of implementing the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, the Special Adviser said the programme was convened to appraise the performance of his Office over the last two years to ascertain areas where service delivery had been optimal and identify lapses that require adjustment for improved performance.
His words: “This retreat has given us the opportunity for the first time, to come together, rub minds, exchange ideas, share knowledge and bring to the front burner issues that are crucial to achieving efficient service delivery and greater productivity in our daily operations”.
He emphasised the need for greater efforts and genuine commitment from all OSAE personnel to achieve set goals, assuring that the State Government would provide all necessary support to its workforce for better performance.
While noting that government activities were limited last year due to the global pandemic and some other challenges, the Special Adviser charged staff to roll up their sleeves and double their efforts to make up for the lost period. He commended the Agency for Mass Education for starting on a good note by training and graduating over 700 trainees in various vocations.
“Our Agency for Mass Education (AME) has set the pace for improved performance by graduating a total of 703 trainees in different vocations and entrepreneurship skills development across our seven vocational centres in the State”, he said.
Commending the leadership and management of the Agency for Mass Education for an impressive performance, Barr. Wahab urged them to come up with more advocacy programmes targeted at poverty eradication, youth empowerment and economic self-reliance.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of OSAE, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, stated that retreatoffered members of the Office a unique opportunity to come together, learn new basics and share knowledge about the core mandates of various Agencies, Department and Units of the OSAE for more collaboration, cooperation and mutually-beneficial working relationship.
He commended the State Government for its capacity building initiatives, adding that a series of activities packaged for the retreat would enhance better performance, physical health and mental wellbeing, improved morale, job satisfaction and motivation among other benefits.
