The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye,has underscored the importance of sporting activities among students of Secondary Schools in Lagos State, saying that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is focused on improving all aspects of education – academics and non-academics.
Speaking at the 10th Edition of Lagos School Sports Festival competitions held at Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, on Wednesday, Mrs. Adekanye said that efficiency in the three domains of education- Cognitive, Psychomotor and Affective -must be simultaneously pursued for all-round success of students.
The TG/PS maintained that the psychomotor aspect of education, which encompasses sporting activities, is essential to discover talented and passionate students in different sporting areas.
She appreciated Governor Sanwo-Olu for approving the sporting event, saying that the gesture demonstrates his love for the overall growth of Secondary School students in the District.
Emphasising the benefits of sporting activities to mental and physical health, the Permanent Secretary expressed delight at the performance of the students and acknowledged their mental alertness as well as optimal performance in academics.
Mrs. Adekanye thanked the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo for creating an enabling atmosphere for the sector to thrive and applauded all school Principals and Teachers of Education District II for grooming their students academically, morally and psychologically.
The Principal, Lagos State Model College Igbokuta, Mr. Kunle Okunlowo, said that Education District II had over the years been known for excellence, affirming that the sports festival serves as an avenue for discovering new talents who would winlaurels for the district.
Medals and trophies were won in the 200, 400, 800 and 1500 metres relay events while horse riders representing different zones also entertained participants at the event.
