The Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Animashaun has donated a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of General Hospital Epe.
The Consultant Pediatrician and Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Busayo Babatunde, who received the items on behalf of the management, said that the hospital and the Pediatric unit appreciate the Chairman of the Local Government, Princess Animashaun, and the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Epe Chapter (NYCN) for the kind gesture, adding that the equipment will not only save lives but enhance the quality of healthcare services to clients.
He said, “The act is symbolic of their confidence in the management, hence the support towards the delivery of qualitative health care services to the people of Epe Division in line with the aspiration of the Lagos State Government”.
Dr. Babatunde also revealed that the donation would not have been possible if not for the relentless efforts of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Epe Chapter. The NYCN, along with key youth groups in the old Epe Division, has in the last couple of years, championed the implementation of community ownership and participation programmes for the 70-year-old hospital.
The CPAP machine is a medical equipment used in the management of Apnea and other forms of respiratory distress that could be life-threatening in adults and babies. Premature babies are particularly vulnerable to developing respiratory distress owing to their poor lung function.
