NEW LAGOS STATE PORTAL: MINISTRY OF SCIENCE SEEKS MINISTRY OF INFORMATION’S INPUT

In its bid to develop a more robust and enhanced portal for the Lagos State Government, the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (MIST) has sought the input of the Ministry of Information and Strategy to boost its overall design and output.

Speaking during a visit to the Ministry on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (MIST), Engr. (Mrs.) Ibilola Kasunmu noted that many people visit the Lagos State Government’s website to gain information. Hence, there is a need for a dedicated team from the Information Ministry to work with them in the Application Department to develop a holistic portal.

Kasunmu stated that the team is seeking the Ministry’s support in terms of prioritising MDAs and organisations on the platform since the Ministry is responsible for information management in Lagos State.

Mr. Akeem Hassan, a staff of MIST, said the project had started a few months ago, and the pertinent issues discovered include how to streamline workflow across MDAs and create a more visual interface on the new website, among others.

On his part, the Tech Lead Consultant on the project, Mr. Setonji Avoseh emphasised that they have thoroughly simplified access to Lagos State Services on the platform using key Lagos landmarks such as Eko Bridge, BRT, Blue Line, Danfo, Eyo and others on the home page, “We are more service-driven and have currently categorised services of the Lagos State Government into 21 categories. Furthermore, the portal in the works also has news and information as well as profiles of the State Executive Council for the benefit of the public”, he added.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Olumide Sogunle expressed the appreciation of the management for the visit, stressing that the leadership of the Ministry is ready and willing to offer all necessary support required.

He, however, suggested inputting other iconic places in Lagos on the homepage of the portal, such as the JK Randle Museum, urging the visiting team to liaise with the Directors of Public Affairs and Social Media respectively on the project.

Both Ministries also agreed on timelines for delivering the project going forward.
