The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro has kicked off the annual HOS Games at the Lagos State University College of Medicine, Sports Area, stating that the primary objectives of the HOS Games was to foster the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie, as well as promote the culture of physical fitness and mental wellness amongst Public Servants in the State.
Stressing that the State Government prioritises the welfare of staff, Agoro said Walk-For-Fitness and Draught have been added to the games. He disclosed further that the physical and mental well-being of every civil servant in Lagos State is crucial for improved productivity and service delivery for the benefit of all residents in Lagos.
Agoro said winners in the male and female categories would win trophies and other gift items, adding that exceptional talents would also be selected to represent the State in some local competitions.
The Vice Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Mr. Richard Ogbe said measures had been put in place to ensure that only qualified staff take part in the Games, stressing that medical teams and security officers are available to ensure the safety of the players.
He said those who were taking part in the competition had been certified fit medically and that staff from all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs,) who registered would be allowed to participate in the competition.
On his part, Head of the Competition’s Technical Committee, Mr. Ola Okunnu said the competition would foster the spirit of sportsmanship in the state public service. He, therefore, urged the players to play according to the rules of the game and avoid any act of indiscipline.
The first football match of the day saw the Lagos State Sports Commission defeated the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement three-nil.
