… As Education Commissioner Reiterates LASG’s Commitment to Education
The Lagos State Senior Model College, Badore, has emerged overall winner (Senior Category) of the Year 2024 Lagos State Governor’s Quiz Competition held on Wednesday at Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
Addressing participants during the Competition, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, noted that the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry, has been at the forefront of advancing quality education and raising the younger generation to become great leaders through various competitions.
The Commissioner emphasised that the annual competition will ultimately develop students’ skills of concentration, identify gaps in knowledge, assist them retain information and further boost their self-confidence.
The Commissioner, who represented the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu at the event, further revealed that to produce self-reliant youths, the State Government through the Education and Technology pillar of the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda has modelled and re-engineered the educational system to deliver graduate students who will blend with the labour market demand.
He said, “In any good educational system, knowledge is not only tested by written or summative examinations but by other means, such as quizzes, panel discussions and project works, which will further develop students for the task ahead”.
Earlier in his welcome address, Permanent Secretary, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MBSE), Mr. Abolaji Abayomi stated that the Ministry, through its various Programmes has produced exceptional students, who have represented the State at National and International Competitions, revealing that the prestige and privileges that come with winning the grand prize of the Lagos State Governor’s Quiz has been a great motivating factor for the students.
The Permanent Secretary, represented by the Director, Basic Education Services, Mr. Olufemi Ashaolu, extended his appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his passion, unwavering commitment and significant investment in the Education Sector, ensuring that every child benefit from the 21st century learning demands.
The Director, Co-Curricular Department, Mrs. Adebambo Aransiola showered encomium on the participants for the brilliance exhibited from the preliminaries to the final stage, adding that these students have been properly groomed by their Teachers.
At the Grand Finale of the Competition, Ilupeju Senior Grammar School and Eva Adelaja Senior Secondary School, Bariga, took the second and third positions, respectively, in the same category. In the Junior Secondary Category, Vetland Junior Grammar School clinched the first position, while Eva Adelaja Junior Secondary School and Oregun Junior High School came second and third. For the Primary School Category, Igbehinadun Primary School, Mushin, took the first position, while Maryland Primary School and Fazi-lo-ma Primary School came second and third positions respectively.
The high point of the competition was the presentation of Trophies and Prizes to winners of the various categories. The event also had the attendance of the Board Secretary, Mr. Hakeem Lamidi, representatives of the six Education Districts, Directors of the Ministry, among other top Government Officials.
