Lagos State Governor,  Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday commissioned a newly established LASEMA Response Unit, LRU, in Ajah area of the State,     saying that the emergence of the Lekki-Ajah corridor as a hub of socio-economic and infrastructure development requires that necessary measures be put in place to respond effectively to emergencies whenever they occur.
Governor Ambode said that plans are also at an advanced stage to establish two other emergency response units that would be located at Ikorodu and Badagry, for a 24/7 operational interface with the major LRU hub at Oshodi.

The Governor, who was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Seye Oladejo promised that his administration will continue to fast-track the training of more voluntary community emergency responders across the State.

According to him, the State government has ensured a paradigm shift in emergency management by scaling up monitoring and evaluation activities of disaster prone areas, through the establishment of a coordinated network of CCTV surveillance and synergy with other emergency response agencies in the State.

He appealed to residents and stakeholders in Lekki to support the government by assisting the newly commissioned emergency response unit to achieve the desired impact through the provision of timely and relevant emergency information when needed.

“As individuals, we must remain vigilant and be safety conscious at all times, safety is everybody’s business. We must, therefore, take precautions and also be our brother’s keeper”, the Governor added.

While noting that the newly commissioned LRU is equipped with heavy duty equipment of various capacities and emergency evacuation vehicles, Ambode promised that the protection of lives and property would continue to occupy the front burner of his administration.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanye said the commissioning of the LRU in Lekki is another bold step of the administration of Mr. Akinwumi Ambode to continue to improve the living conditions of the people through best policies.

She assured that the State government will not relent in its bid to continue to champion safety and emergency issues across the State.
