Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday said his administration has embraced a creative and innovative approach to governance for greater efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of the public good.
The Governor, who spoke at the Golden Jubilee anniversary of Eko Club with the Theme: “Sustainable Development Drive, beyond Lagos @50 celebration” held in Surulere, added that this forms the driving philosophy of most government initiatives.
Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello, he said: “This is the driving philosophy behind most of the State Government’s initiatives and programmes in the areas of solid waste management, traffic management, road, rail, and water transport infrastructure, education, health, infrastructural renewal and development among others”.
He said the challenge before the State Government is captured by the theme of the celebration, which aims to sustain the high pedestal the State occupies and move it up to the highest possible level, within the context of a fast changing and knowledge-driven globalised system that is becoming increasingly competitive.
The Governor stated that the present administration understands the need for a robust partnership between the public and private sectors because a thriving private sector holds the key to optimally harness the huge and largely untapped potentials in the State especially in tourism, entertainment, agriculture and ICT among others.
According to him, the future potentials of Lagos is very bright and encouraging, we can imagine what we can achieve if we stand shoulder to shoulder as a Government with the people, to create an atmosphere in which our individual and collective aspirations are achievable.
“We all must resolve to discharge our obligations diligently, sharing a common ideal that defines who we are and what we stand for”, he stated.
He reiterated the State Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment that will position the State as the most preferred destination for local and foreign investments.
He stated that Lagos State has the sincere commitment and dedication to being the most prosperous in the Nigerian Federation to justify the sacrifices and dedication of its founding fathers and successive leaders.
While commending the founders of Eko Club for the journey so far, he also charged them to set an agenda for the next 50 years saying, “We need to think about the legacy we would like to bequeath to generations coming behind. In the next 50 years, what legacies will our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren proudly point (to) as proof of our commitment today to actualise their future”.
Earlier in his remarks, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu I advised members of Eko club to close ranks and always be ready to help one another, insisting that is the only way development and happiness could be spread.
He also enjoined them to support the present administration in Lagos State under Mr Akinwunmi Ambode saying, he is genuinely committed to moving Lagos to the next level.
