Lagos State Government has advised the over 1,500 newly recruited staff into the various Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas, to be solution providers and innovators of ideas capable of fast-tracking the vision of the State Government and also improve service delivery to Lagosians.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of a three-day induction/orientation programme for newly recruited officers of the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs of the State at the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Magodo, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Adeoye said that solution providers must proactively anticipate issues before they degenerate into crisis instead of seeing themselves as problem solvers who wait for crisis before proffering solutions.
The Head of Service also urged the new employees to eschew vices and all forms of corrupt practices capable of truncating their journey in the public service of the State Government.
According to her, it was expedient for the Local Government employees to leverage on their versatility and the emerging technological trends to improve service delivery to the citizenry instead of putting their knowledge to use in an unprofitable venture.
“I urge you to take full advantage of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, to develop yourselves because technology will ruletomorrow’s workplace and only your knowledge and skills will ensure your continued relevance. So, please ensure that you put your time to maximum use at all times”, she implored.
Adesoye added that the induction programme will avail the participants the opportunity to establish friendship and lifelong relationships that may not only serve to help them in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities in a timely, efficient and effective manner but may later become instrumental in the attainment of their individual dreams, goals and aspirations beyond the public service career.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa used the occasion to warn the new employees to shun lackadaisical attitude, embrace teamwork and be regular at work always.
He added that the officials of the Commission would be paying unscheduled visits to the various LGs and LCDAs to monitor the activities of the staff as well as their punctuality, adding that the business of government must be seen as a serious business and treated as such.
Earlier, the Director-General, Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre, Mr. Senukon Ajose-Harrison said the orientation exercise was meant to integrate the newly employed officers of Local Governments on culture, ethics and norms of Lagos State Public Service.
He added that the programme had been put together in line with the desire of the State government to continually promote excellence even at the grassroots level with a view to contributing to the realisation of its Smart City aspirations.
According to him,“In other to achieve this, it is expected that newly employed officers acquire adequate capacity building initiative that will align them to the work culture and strategic institutional objectives of the State and Local Government”.
