Lagos State Government has challenged staff of its 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas to ‘up their ante’ in order to meet up with the yearnings of the citizenry.
The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mrs. Omobolanle Ogunmola, gave the charge during the monitoring tour of Ikeja, Epe and Ikorodu Centers for the ongoing Y2018 Staff Performance Evaluation Exercise (Structured Training Programme) across all the local governments and local council development areas in the State.
Ogunmola said that local government staff must realise that the expectations of the residents in the State especially those at the grassroots are high, adding that staffers need to improve on Service Delivery to match the ongoing transformation in the State.
According to her, Local Government Employees must also key into the Growth Mindset campaign of the State Government, stressing that the officers must be determined to embrace a growth mindset to learn new skills and apply better approaches to work.
Speaking on the Staff Performance Evaluation Exercise, the Permanent Secretary said that the introduction of the training programme to the Evaluation Exercise was as a result of Governor Ambode’s intention of equipping the workforce with requisite skills that will aid their performance and progression in the Public Service career.
She explained that the former method of promoting staff does not meet the expectation of the State Government anymore, hence the need for government to design a more realistic method of appraising the performance of its workers.
“This Structured Training will help the participants to improve their performance and efficiency. We want our employees to take up new and greater challenges that will further promote service delivery at the grassroots”, the Permanent Secretary stated.
Ogunmola, who urged the participants to leverage on the interactivity of the training sessions, disclosed that the training will feature topics on Public Service Rules, Financial Regulations, moral guidance and physical exercise for fitness.
The Commission Member representing Epe Division, Mr. Olabode Garbadeen charged the local government workforce to justify Governor Ambode’s generosity of providing capacity building for officers at the grassroots level by translating the acquired knowledge to quality service delivery for the masses.
He urged the workers to be dedicated to their duties and report punctually at their duty posts at all times.
The Chairman, Epe Local Government, Mr. Adedoyin Adesanya, told the participants to abide by the Oath of Secrecy binding their engagement with the State government, noting that Public Officers are believed to be the custodians of government activities and must be seen to act as such.
