The Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries (ALARHOSPS) has called on all relevant stakeholders in the education sector to periodically review the school curriculum to keep abreast of new developments just as it called for the integration of Cancer Screening and treatment into the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its 5th Bi-Annual Summit themed “Lagos State Vision on Education and Health in relation to Sustainable Development Goals: An Overview”, the Association urged the Lagos State Government to immediately commence the implementation of the Health Insurance Scheme with measures that will encourage all private health care facilities in the State to come on-board. It also underscored the need to deploy additional Counselors to Lagos schools to guide students in their educational careers.
The Summit, held at Alausa Secretariat, also focused on the policies, programmes and projects being implemented by the Lagos State Government towards attaining its objectives for the health and education sectors.
ALARHOSPS commended the State government for domesticating the Health Insurance Scheme, describing the move as very critical in achieving zero maternal morbidity and other preventable deaths arising from lack of proper medical attention.
Earlier, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by his Chief of Staff – Mr. Olukunle Ojo – declared the event open and reaffirmed his confidence in the ability of the experienced administrators to offer useful suggestions in line with the vision of his administration.
“I am confident of the robust, detailed and thought-provoking suggestions that this platform had presented in the past and I am convinced that this edition will not be an exception” he said.
The Governor assured the Association that the outcome of the Summit would be critically examined by the State Executive Council with the view of possible implementation of the recommendations.
The Head of Service, Mrs. Folashade Adesoye, in her address, also appreciated the Governor for his unflinching support and belief in the Association.
She stated that the crucial importance of the two goals of human capital development and the socio-economic fortunes of Lagos State have brought about the need to break down the sectoral walls between health and education.
This, according to her, was needed to further explore the unlimited potentials and opportunities inherent in both sectors.
ALARHOSPS is a body established by the State Government to serve as a think-tank and an advisory body to Government on its programmes, plans and policies.
