PSSDC OFFERS CERTIFICATE COURSE IN LG ADMINISTRATION

Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre, PSSDC, Magodo, has opened a nine months certificate course in Local Government Administration for stagnated officers in the Lagos Unified Local Government.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2018 edition of the course, the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Babatunde Rotinwa, represented by Mr. Babs Akinyanmi, appealed to the staff undergoing the training to make the best use of the opportunity offered by the state government to upgrade themselves.

He said that with the programme, graduates of the Course will be qualified for promotion to the next salary grade level and therefore urged them to see the programme as an opportunity to prioritize personal development above irrelevant social engagements.

He warned the local government officials to shun corrupt practices, stressing that the present administration has zero tolerance for corruption and would therefore not hesitate to deal with anyone caught in negative acts.

“You should shun complacency, always aim for the best and be prudent with your income. You should spend your money on personal improvement instead of lavishing your hard-earned resources on social functions,” the Commissioner counselled.

Earlier, the Director-General, PSSDC, Dr. Olufunmi Ajose-Harrison disclosed that the training, apart from eliminating career stagnation for the affected staff, will also equip participants with necessary administrative capabilities that would assist them in the discharge of their duties.

According to him, “The importance of the roles being played by local government officials in ensuring good governance, management, delivery and achievement of sustainable development, makes the training imperative”.

He identified effective staff training, development and exposure to continuous knowledge and skill as what is needed by government officials at the grassroots to improve the quality of service rendered to the citizenry.

While allaying fears of career stagnation among the participants, Ajose-Harrison said “we understand that for officers on your grade levels, the fear of stagnation as a result of non-availability of training opportunities could hinder productivity.  That fear is no longer your lot”.

“As a result of your participation in this course you have the opportunity to break the yoke posed by stagnation which is an appropriate foundation for you to build on higher educational and occupational career heights”, he asserted.
