The Director-General, Public Service Staff Development Centre, PSSDC, Mr. Senukon Ajose-Harrison has identified capacity building as a good way of achieving effective service delivery.
Speaking at the commencement of a three-day course on Effective Service Delivery for the staff of Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency, (LASIMRA), Ajose-Harrison said the training was borne out of the need to provide excellent regulatory guidelines for public and private infrastructure from the safety and aesthetics perspective.
According to him, “The regulatory functions of LASIMRA must be carried out by staff who are not only technically competent but must also deliver the services with a view to drawing positive public sentiments for government even as they enforce the regulatory codes”.
He said the programme was, therefore, designed to equip the staff of LASIMRA with adequate and necessary knowledge to enable them perform exceedingly well in their various duties, positing that ‘the course is concerned with how the service concept is provided to the customer which encompasses the structure (facilities and equipment) and infrastructure (skill and policies) to deliver the service concept”.
He listed the course contents to include Visioning Towards Achieving Organisational Goals; Code of Conduct and Ethics in the Public Service; Rules, Regulations and Conditions of Service in the Public Service; Working in Teams, Health, Safety and Risk Assessment; Managing Work Relationships; Effective Interpersonal Skills, and Basics of Emotional Intelligence.
Earlier in her address, Mrs. Olayemi Oni, General Manager of LASIMRA implored the participants to maximise the opportunity to experience an effective way of quality service delivery, knowledge, understanding and wisdom which would take them far.
“Please seize the opportunity to assimilate all deliverables from the faculties, take the fullest and maximum opportunity of the course to become different persons in delivering quality service”, she advised.
