…As Lagosians Celebrate 58th National Independence Anniversary
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday said the state of the nation today calls for the contribution of individuals, organisations and institutions towards ensuring a positive turnaround in the life of residents as well as the economy.
The Governor, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet /Secretary to the State Government’s office, Mr. Adeshina Odeyemi at a Church Service commemorating the 58th National Independence Anniversary at the Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa, Ikeja, enjoined everyone to continue to pray for the Nation, especially as another election year approaches.
He added that all individuals should play their parts to ensure a free, fair, credible and violence-free election that would bring leaders capable of providing the much needed positive change for the people.
According to him, “Dear Compatriots, my optimism is not borne out of wishful thinking; rather it is grounded in the moment we have shared as a nation, the Laurel we have won as a people and the common fears we have nursed for our future. So, let us remain grateful and thankful to God for His mercies endureth forever”.
He said the 58th National Independence Anniversary is of great importance to all, as it gives the opportunity not only to seek God’s face for the nation but to also remember all those who fought and made huge sacrifices to liberate the country from shackles of colonial rule.
The Governor stressed that in spite of the challenges that the nation had experienced and is currently experiencing, every individual has made some significant progress which is worthy of celebration and that the unbroken democratic governance journey that commenced since May 29, 1999, has come to stay and can only get better.
He said the great national event presents all with another opportunity to give praises and adoration to God for the love, goodness and mercy he has continuously shown unto all despite the many sociopolitical and economic challenges facing Nigerians after independence.
“Today, we are gathered here to give thanks to the Lord on the occasion of our 58th National Independence Anniversary. I congratulate all of us on this occasion of the 58th Independence anniversary of our nation and I wish us many pleasant and peaceful years ahead”, he said.
Earlier in his sermon, the Lagos State CAN President, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola called on everyone to continually support and pray for all their leaders to have the heart of flesh in order to lead and guide the nation aright from time to time.
He advised that everyone should shun all forms of violence and have faith that the God Almighty would put a stop to all the storms going on across the nation.
“Lagosians, I will like to appeal to you all to continually pray for peace and unity so that we can all move the nation to the next level, eat and enjoy the fruit of the land in togetherness”, he enthused.
