Archivists of the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) led by its Director-General, Dr. Biodun Onayele paid a working visit to First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) Archives at Apapa to understudy their mode of operations as a private institution.
Dr. Onayele, speaking during the visit, said that the visit was premised on the need to expose the newly recruited Archivists to best practices in records and archives management.
He said the choice of the Bank was due to its leadership role in pioneering financial records/archives management in the banking sector in Nigeria and since LASRAB is an emerging public records and archives institution with a desire to maintain sound records/archives management system of international standards, there was a need to compare notes with FBN on its achievements and also tap from its wealth of experience.
The Director-General, therefore, requested for partnership with the Bank in terms of sponsorship of the Bureau’s programmes and training of the Archivists both locally and internationally.
The Head, Records & Archives Management, First Bank of Nigeria, Mrs. Yemisi Oyebo, who received the delegation thanked the DG for the visit and assured him of communicating his request to the Management team of the Bank.
She stressed the importance of records and archives management in all spheres of life and the importance FBN placed on records and archives management which necessitated the establishment of the Bank’s Archives in Lagos, Ibadan, Abeokuta, Enugu, Kano and Abuja.
Oyebo, however, enjoined the Bureau to continue to maintain the high standards it has set as the only State Records and Archives Institution in Nigeria, promising that her team would soon pay a similar visit to the Bureau to afford them the opportunity to also inspect the Bureau’s facilities.
