As part of its comprehensive
campaign towards achieving a sustainable greener and healthier State as well as
improving the well-being of the citizenry, the Lagos State Parks and Gardens
Agency, LASPARK, has begun an intensive regeneration of degraded areas across
the State.

The exercise tagged ‘Operation Mass
Attack’ is a collaborative and coordinated operation of the Agency to ensure
that notorious degraded areas in the state Metropolis are restituted to improve
their values.

According to the statement released
by the General Manager of the Agency, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, the
campaign was initiated to ensure the continued preservation of the symmetric of
a strategic location for natural engagement in the State.

“The operation is fashioned to respond
to the aesthetic needs of strategic locations in the state with the aim of
bequeathing to the people of Lagos a greener and healthier environment in line
with the new Environmental Law of the State Government”, she revealed.

She observed that the confluence of
certain locations in the state demand intensive attention and as such, the
Agency is providing an enduring mechanism to strengthen the natural greenery of
these areas through this operation.

Speaking further, Adebiyi-Abiola
stated that the intervention programme also provides a platform to conduct an
assessment on the state of open spaces in order to ensure proper planning,
adding that the resolution of the Agency is to entrench the attainment of the
Smart City as envisioned by the State government.

While applauding the cooperation of
the Agency’s staff, Mrs. Adebiyi-Abiola urged Citizens and business enterprises
to make sure their activities are nature-friendly, admonishing them to
regularly engage in tree planting, being the cheapest means of mitigating the
impact of climate change and global warming.

Meanwhile, the residents of Festac
Town in Amuwo- Odofin, where the weekly special intervention exercise was
carried out gratefully commended the agency for regenerating distorted areas in
their community and advancing the essence of natural beauty.

While urging the Agency to extend
same to other public places in their community, residents of the area appealed
for the sustainability of the operation. 

Recall that Operation Mass Attack
has already been carried out in over 17 strategic locations across the state
with the involvement of all operational departments of the Agency. The next
strategic intervention is scheduled for Ogudu GRA in Ikeja Local Government
Area of the State.
