The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has scheduled the bye-election into the vacant Councillorship seat in Ward C (Owode Orile Ward), Bariga Local Council Development Area of the State for Tuesday, 18th December 2018.
The disclosure was made today during a visit of LASIEC officials to the two Baales in the affected ward to solicit their support and cooperation in ensuring peaceful conduct of the election.
Speaking on behalf of the Commission, Chief (Mrs) Toyin Ibrahim-Famakinwa explained that the Commission decided to visit the traditional rulers due to their enormous influence over their subjects and also to seek assistance towards ensuring harmony and peace before, during and after the election.
She, however, warned that the Commission would not condone any act of lawlessness that could cause a breach of the peace and threaten the credibility of the electoral process.
While responding to the request of the Commission, the traditional rulers expressed appreciation to the Commission for identifying the role of traditional institutions in ensuring peaceful coexistence among their subjects.
They, therefore, pledged to prevail on residents in their communities to be law abiding and shun all acts that could impede the electoral process and cause disharmony and violence.
The two Baales visited were High Chief Olakunle Olusegun Aromire, Baale of Owode Orile and High Chief Michael Lopez, Baale of Irepodun.
The Councillorship bye-election is being conducted by the Commission following the death of Mr. Solomon Awokoya, the Councillor representing the Ward before his demise.
Meanwhile, a Stakeholders’ meeting where issues relating to the conduct of the election would be discussed will be held tomorrow Wednesday, November 28.
