Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), has developed a plan for the redevelopment of slum areas in Ikorodu.
General Manager LASURA, Mr. Lateef Sholebo disclosed today this during an interview in his office and reiterated that the Agency in line with its responsibility to initiate redevelopment plans for all slum areas in the State is set to commence the proposed intervention at Ikorodu.
Sholebo said the upgrade and redevelopment of the slum areas in the town will end the challenges of poor drainage facilities, poor building conditions, inadequate waste collection system, inadequate public toilets, poor road networks among other issues faced by dwellers in those areas.
He stated that the agency would upgrade the roads with street lights within the community, provide clean and potable water, a proper waste disposal system, stressing that “All in all LASURA is set to develop a clean and habitable community”.
According to the General Manager, redevelopment of the slum areas in Ikorodu would be done through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) under an arrangement where private investors come in with the funds and government provides the land. The private sector partners will also supervise in order to ensure the projects meet acceptable standards.
He said the Ikorodu community, one of the five divisions in Lagos State, has a lot of potentials powered by an active social life, adding that the current noticeable changes and development in Ikorodu area is a result of the commitment of the present administration to boost the economic fortunes of the town.
