Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a unit of the Lagos State Police Command, on Wednesday arrested a fake soldier along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way near Muritala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja while a robber was caught at Oshodi dispossessing commuters of their goods.
The fake soldier, Yusuf Quadri, 22, from Ogun State, was arrested riding a commercial tricycle during a stop and search operation by RRS officers to apprehend riders violating the road restriction imposed on motorcycles along Airport Road.
Quadri had posed as a military officer but further inquiry revealed he was an impostor who had stolen one of the military uniforms of a newly promoted officer.
Investigation also revealed that the suspect, thereafter, took a photograph wearing the uniform and subsequently converted it to an identity card.
He admitted using the military identity card and outfit to by-pass security operatives, local government and LASTMA officials whenever he was on the wrong side of the law.
In a similar vein, the robbery suspect, Emeka Ohiaeri, was arrested after snatching a mobile phone from a youth corps member in Oshodi.
Unknown to Ohiaeri, RRS operatives spotted him, trailed him and subsequently recovered the mobile phone, then handed it to the owner at the RRS Headquarters, Ikeja, the following day.
The suspect confessed to the police that he had snatched several phones, purses and handbags in traffic in Oshodi area.
Meanwhile, the two suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning while the RRS has reinforced its presence in Oshodi to curb traffic robbery.
