Following the ongoing rehabilitation of roads across the State, Ikorodu Division Economic Forum (IKODEF) has commended the Lagos State Government for the repair work done on Ikorodu Road by Mile 12 inward Ketu.
In a statement issued by its Executive Secretary of the Group, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun, the Group said that the rehabilitation of several portions of roads in the axis by the State Public Works has significantly improved the life of the people, alleviating the discomfort commuters encounter on a daily basis.
He disclosed that the experience of Residents of the area due to the failure of certain portions of the road has not only been harrowing but frustrating, adding that the rehabilitation of roads by the State Government is vital to the socio-economic development of the area.
“The repair which has greatly helped to eliminate the agony earlier experienced by commuters in the Ikorodu axis has facilitated the ease of movement, business operation and other social engagement”, he said.
While appreciating the State Government for embarking on the massive palliative work on the State inner roads, the Group expressed satisfaction that the Government is taking into cognisance strategic needs of the people by developing ways to ameliorate the suffering of the citizens.
The Group, however, urged the State Government to improve on its interaction with residents whenever such operation is to be undertaken, as such good intention might be frustrated by the absence of reliable information.
“We advise that rather than relying mainly on the information transmitted through the radio, the State Government should go further by erecting signboards at strategic points informing people of the repairs and the consequence of discomfort that may arise from it”, he stated.
The Group also implored the State government to help install reflective signs on the road, particularly on the curvy section of the Ikorodu-Mile 12 section to assist in saving lives and property along that stretch of road.
