The Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Cecilia Bolaji Dada has called for the empowerment of women across the State.
Speaking at a consultative forum organised by the Lagos State Government for women in rural areas and held at the Lekki Local Council Development Hall, the Commissioner explained that women, irrespective of their locality must be encouraged to embrace opportunities to contribute their quota to the socioeconomic development of the State.
While noting that the creation of opportunities and empowering women is a top priority for the present administration, Dada described the forum as an initiative geared towards interacting with rural women to know their challenges, needs and ultimately proffer appropriate solutions to them.
“Government is determined to help women across the State to confront their challenges by providing the needed resources for uplifting their socioeconomic status through short-term skill Acquisition and Empowerment Programmes”, she emphasised.
The Commissioner affirmed that the State Government, through the Ministry for Women and Poverty Alleviation, will enroll women in the area for a short term training programme on Arts after which they will be empowered with working tools.
“We are confident that these women can channel their ability to productive ventures if given adequate skills and enabling environment. As a responsive Government, our focus is to make them reliable and contribute to the development of the State”, she added.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, the women pleaded with the State Government to help ameliorate the problems of power supply and bad roads among other issues hampering economic activities in the area.
