The Lagos State Scholarship Board has commenced the disbursement of funds released by the State Government for payment of Bursary and Scholarship to indigenes in tertiary institutions across the country.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony for 2018/2019 set held at the Scholarship Board grounds in Agege, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Omotayo Fakolujo, said the disbursement was as a result of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s approval and release of over N400 Million for payment of Scholarship and Bursary to indigent students.
Fakolujo explained that the Board will commence with the disbursement of N205,790,000 to 416 fresh and 565 subsequent Local Scholarship Beneficiaries, including both Masters and Doctorate degree students, while N218,795,000 would be disbursed to 6,411 bursary, fresh and subsequent beneficiaries.
He opined that financial awards to the students are geared towards accelerating the educational advancement of Lagos State indigenes in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of Governor Sanwo-Olu-led administration for qualitative and affordable education to Lagosians irrespective of their status in life.
His words: “Today’s ceremony is not only to show the Government’s concern and passion for the youths, but also to make this administration accountable to the good people of Lagos, as well as in the fulfilment of the State Government’s promise of making education accessible and affordable at all levels”.
Earlier in her welcome address, Mrs. Tinuola Idowu, Director Scholarship Department, stated that in line with the strategic developmental agenda of the current administration of which education and technology is a key pillar, the Governor has shown his administration’s strong belief in supporting human capacity development and welfare.
Idowu hinted that the State Government Scholarships Scheme is not just about receiving cash alerts but also about supporting the students through a journey to reach their potential.
Recall that since its establishment, the Lagos State Scholarship Board, as an agency responsible for the administration of bursary and scholarship awards in the State, has been consistent in ensuring that qualified beneficiaries receive bursary awards.
