As part of the Lagos State Government’s effort to protect children from life-threatening diseases, the Chairman of Epe Local Government Area, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, has appealed to residents to actively participate in the upcoming vaccination campaign scheduled to start from October 19 to November 2, 2024, for the immunisation against measles, yellow fever, and Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
Addressing the people of Epe on the planned vaccination exercise recently, Animashaun emphasised the importance of the campaign, urging parents and guardians to ensure that their children are vaccinated.
She noted that the immunisation drive is a vital step in boosting the health and immunity of young children in the community. “I appeal to all parents and guardians to allow their children to be vaccinated during this period. These vaccines will stimulate their immune systems and protect them from serious illnesses,” she stated.
The Chairman stressed that the vaccines, which will be administered to children between 9 months to 59 months for measles, 9 months to 44 years for yellow fever, and 9 years to 14 years for HPV, are critical for preventing outbreaks of these diseases, adding that HPV vaccination, in particular, plays a key role in preventing cervical cancer, which remains a leading cause of death among women.
She reassured the community that the vaccination teams, dispatched by the state government, are fully equipped and trained to administer the vaccines safely. She also encouraged residents to welcome the teams into their homes and schools, as the vaccines have been certified safe and effective by health authorities.
“We need to come together as a community and embrace this opportunity. The state government is doing everything possible to protect our children, and it is our responsibility as parents and caregivers to support this cause. Please, make sure your children get vaccinated,” she urged.
The Chairman concluded by thanking the Lagos State Government for its proactive health initiatives and urged residents to take full advantage of the free vaccination services being provided by spreading the word to ensure no child is left behind.
