LAGOS ROLLS OUT PLANS FOR 2024 IBILE YOUTH ACADEMY PROGRAMMES

The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development has announced plans to hold the 2024 Ibile Youth Academy with a comprehensive month-long series of leadership training activities.

The Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende announced this today at the Alausa Secretariat, outlining the schedule for the Academy to include a Five-Day Divisional Training scheduled for 28th October – 1st November 2024, as well as One-Day Leadership Seminar with the Governor planned for 8th November 2024.

He said there will also be a Leadership Camp from 10th to 14th November 2024; and the Unveiling of State and Divisional Ambassadors at the State House Banquet Hall on 15th November 2024.

Earlier in September, the Ministry held a week-long Awareness exercise from 7th – 15th September 2024); while the Registration and Screening took place from 16th September – 18th October 2024.

“This year’s Ibile Youth Academy will be one of a kind, introducing significant changes to address gaps identified in previous editions. We have lined up diverse leadership training activities to be led by experienced facilitators from various fields, equipping our youth with the skills needed to compete globally. Ultimately, the academy aims to produce leaders with a global outlook,” said Ogunlende.

Supporting his statement, the Permanent Secretary, Pharm. (Mrs.) Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu emphasised that the Ibile Youth Academy aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, which prioritises youth empowerment and development.
“Over the years, we have faced leadership challenges at different levels in Nigeria.

The Ibile Youth Academy was initiated to address these issues by instilling leadership, citizenship, and volunteerism values in young people. It aims to groom their leadership potential for the benefit of Lagos State and Nigeria,” she stated.

“This year’s programme has been met with an inspiring level of enthusiasm as over 3763 applications were submitted showcasing the immense talent and ambition within the youths out of which 1228 applicants who scaled through the rigorous selection process were invited for physical screening held across the five divisions of Lagos State”, the Permanent Secretary noted.

The five-day intensive training across the five divisions – Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island and Epe. will select the top 10 participants from each division, who will then participate in a seven-day residential camp. From this camp, the State Youth Ambassador will be chosen, along with five Divisional Ambassadors.
