LAGOS SSG COMMENDS ‘SCRIBE 57’ FOR ENHANCING DEVELOPMENT AT THE GRASSROOTS

The Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mrs. Folashade Sherifat Jaji, has commended the 57 Secretaries to the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (Scribe 57) for working with their Chairmen to improve governance at the various councils of the State.

Speaking at a quarterly meeting held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, Mrs. Jaji applauded the Council Scribes for their valuable contributions and recommendations to achieve better governance at the State and Local Council levels.

She said the Community of Practice (COP) adopted at one of its meetings had helped in addressing some of the peculiar challenges in their respective councils, through shared knowledge and experiences for the benefit of residents.

Jaji also commended the Scribes for their collaboration on ‘Safer Lagos and One Community at a Time’ programmes implemented by the State Government to improve the standard of living of Lagosians.

The SSG also thanked the Scribes for their suggestions on better ways to engage the youths after the #EndSARS protest to prevent a re-occurrence and sensitisation to flatten the curve of COVID-19, just as she congratulated some of them that were recently re-elected.

The Council Secretaries in their remarks praised Mrs. Jaji for her noble initiative to invite them for meetings after her appointment as the SSG saying, “This is the first time in the history of Lagos State that the 57 Secretaries in the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas are being given a voice to contribute to governance at the State level and celebrated. Your initiative to engage us on a quarterly basis has added to our dignity and improved performances and relationship with our Chairmen”.

While maintaining that the initiative has helped to synchronise governance at the State and Local Government levels, they implored the SSG to find a way to sustain the initiative after her tenure.

The ‘Scribe 57’ also used the occasion to celebrate Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s 56th birthday, describing him as a great leader, humane personality and visionary team player. He was praised for his efforts in making Lagos State better than he met it.
