The Office of the State Surveyor General (OSSG) has successfully inducted a batch of 28 newly recruited staff of survey technical/ professional cadres between 11th and 14th October 2024, charging them to uphold the agency’s reputation and contribute effectively to its mission of accurate and efficient service delivery to the public.
The two-day induction ceremony was flagged off by the Permanent Secretary/Surveyor-General (OSSG), Surv. Ayokunnu Adesina congratulated the newly recruited officers and emphasised the importance of professionalism and discipline. He urged them to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations by projecting a positive image of the State Surveyor-General’s office.
“You are now representatives of this office, and the quality of your work will directly impact our standing. Be diligent, respectful, and dedicated in carrying out your duties and responsibilities,” said Surv. Adesina.
The inductees were taken through insightful and interactive sessions about the four technical directorates in the office of the State Surveyor-General which include: Cadastral Directorate, Survey Coordination, Transaction and Records (SCTR) Directorate, Control Mapping and Boundary Directorate and Land Information System Support Unit/Geographical Information System (LISSU/GIS) Directorate.
Each of these directorates plays an essential role in the efficient service delivery efforts of the office.
Surv. Adesina emphasised that the OSSG is one of the revenue-generating agencies of the government, noting that the newly inducted officers are expected to contribute to the state’s economic development through diligent work.
He also underscored the historical significance of the Office of the State Surveyor-General, which was established in 1967, and has since been a pillar in the field of surveying and geospatial services.
Other speakers at the ceremony include Surv. Olalekan Odupe (Director of Cadastral), Surv. Tajudeen Afolami (Director of SCTR), Surv. Bolaji Balogun (Director of Control Mapping and Boundary), and Surv. Wale Otuseso (LISSU/GIS Directorate)
The speakers shared insights into the operations of their respective directorates and encouraged the new officers to remain focused, determined, and committed to their roles.
Other speakers include the representative of the Planning and Budget Unit, Mrs. Ebunola Adeni-Awosika; representative of the Procurement Unit, Mr. Olufemi Owolabi and the Director Finance and Accounts Department, Mr. Oluwagbemiga Fajobi.
Onboarding the inductees, the Director, Administration & Human Resources, Mr. Olamiju Ebenezer, also gave an insightful session on the organisational culture and ethics of the Public/Civil Service, Oath of Secrecy, career growth as related to promotion, advancement, conversion and many more.
“Induction served not only as an orientation to familiarise all of you with the office’s operations but also as an opportunity for you to connect with colleagues and mentors. Also, as you embark on your career, you are expected to contribute to the ongoing development and success of the Agency” Mr. Olamiju said.
