PUBLIC SERVICE IS THE ENGINE ROOM OF GOVERNANCE – COMMISSIONER
The Honourable Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle has stated that the Public Service in any economy and clime is the engine room of administration and governance.
The Commissioner disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the Year 2020 Certificate Course in Local Government Administration, which is one of the flagship long-duration breaking programmes designed by the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), Magodo.
Ponnle stated that as purveyors of public policies, Public Servants are critical agents in the formulation, design, dissemination and implementation of plans, programmes, projects and activities of Governments, as such, a highly professional, competent and innovative Public Service will always be an added advantage.
She informed that the present administration, led by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has recognised this and is poised to continue to boost the capacity of the State Public Service to keep it ahead of the pack in the comity of Public Services in Nigeria.
The Commissioner charged Public Servants to continue to skill up in order to play their part creditably well in the achievement of the goals of Government as outlined in the T.H.E.M.E.S development agenda.
She said that in order to build the required capacity for the realisation of the Government’s vision for a Greater Lagos, the present administration has invested in the establishment of a Learning Management System (LMS) to further deepen opportunities for all categories of Public Servants to access learning to further boost service delivery in the State.
Ponnle, therefore implored the graduands, as well as all public servants, to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the new initiative in capacity building in the State.
While enjoining the graduating set to discharge their responsibilities proficiently and appropriately conduct themselves in the course of their careers, Mrs. Ponnle advised that they should not allow the ‘YOU’ in them to cause a stumbling block between them and a successful public service career.
A total of 83 Public Servants successfully completed the nine-month long career-enhancing course, which is aimed at assisting staff who, for one reason or the other, lack the capacity and opportunity for higher educational attainments to break stagnation in the course of their career in the State civil service.
