YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA URGES DIALOGUE ON GOVERNMENT POLICIES

In order to ensure that government policies are formulated in the interest of the citizens, it is absolutely necessary for the government at every level to always consider an all-inclusive stakeholders’ engagement before initiating such policies.

The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (Lagos State Chapter), Comrade Biliaminu Sulaimon-Oba stated this at a Press Conference organised by the Council, held at the Ikeja Youth Centre to address the crises occasioned by the policies initiated by the Federal Government.

Speaking on the theme: “On Cash Swap Policy, Peaceful Lagos Before And After 2023 Elections And Fuel Scarcity”, Sulaimon-Oba emphasised the need for CBN to disburse new naira notes and charged INEC to ensure a free, fair and credible election. He also expressed his dismay at the scarcity of fuel across the country, imploring the youths to be ambassadors of positive change by shunning violence in the face of provocation, especially during the coming general elections.

In his words: “The National Youth Council of Nigeria (Lagos State Chapter) calls for all-inclusive government policies in view of the current challenges facing Nigerians which has led to series of protests and agitations from all sections of the country”.

“Nigeria is presently battling a serious economic and social trauma. As such, the Federal Government and its agencies must understand the fact that in order to have a more egalitarian society, there is a need for an all-inclusive stakeholders’ involvement before policies are enforced. The need to sample the opinions of all concerned persons before implementing any policy cannot be overlooked. We hereby urge the current government and incoming administrations at all tiers of government to take cognisance of this”, he noted.

According to Comrade Sulaimon-Oba, the people should not be put in a state of discomfort and hardship like the masses are currently facing, hence government policies should be people-oriented and not only beneficial to the political class but to the detriment of the citizens.
