The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), with the support of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (ROLAC), has organised a sensitisation Programme at the Palace of Eweye of Isiu as part of the 16-day activism programme.
The Facilitator for the programme and staff of DSVA, Mr. Akinde Emmanuel listed all the services being rendered by the Agency including Advocacy, Legal assistance, Counselling and Field Operations, just as he highlighted the various forms of violence such as physical abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, child neglect, and financial abuse.
He also mentioned that domestic violence can be perpetrated between relatives, friends and family towards each other, adding that Sexual Violence is a criminal offence punishable by upwards of 14 years to life imprisonment in Lagos State.
The Eweye of Isiu, Alaiyeluwa Oba David Olukayode Raji stated that he was grateful that his community was part of the other provinces privileged to participate in the 16 days of the Activism Sensitisation programme.
He commended the Lagos State government for organising the programme and prayed for all the DSVA staff present, adding that childcare starts from the early stages, and so to raise responsible children, they must be trained on time.
Kabiyesi and his Olori were decorated with the DSVA purple ribbon by Ms. Bunmi Orekoya, Head, Alternative Dispute Resolution Department, DSVA.
He was also awarded a plaque of appreciation for his efforts towards ending the menace of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in his community.
The toll-free line was given to the residents of the community and were encouraged to call at any time of the day in case of an emergency. This is in addition to the educational materials and souvenirs distributed free of charge to participants.
