In furtherance of the adoption of advanced mapping technology, the Office of the State Surveyor General held a week-long training exercise, tagged “Use of Drones in Surveying and Aerial Mapping” for capacity building and continued professional development.
The exercise was designed for skills improvement, better understanding of the job and faster service delivery to stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary and Surveyor-General of Lagos State, Mr. Olutomi Sangowawa urged the participants to embrace the new skills and methods imparted during the training, maintaining that the unmanned aerial vehicle technology will enhance their ability to deliver survey documents with reduced stress and greater efficiency.
Sangowawa maintained that the programme would provide 21st Century technology to make surveyors excel in their various areas of specialisation and gave an assurance that the sessions would provide insights into new methods of going about their professional duties.
He pointed out that the Remotely Piloted Vehicles (RPV) operate via wireless communication and would leverage on the fibre-optic cable internet technology being deployed by the Lagos State Government.
The facilitator at the event, Mr. Olumide Adesanya, explained the importance of drone technology in survey matters, stating that emphasis will be laid on the features and functions of four types of Drones namely: Multi-rotor drones, Fixed wing drones, Single rotor helicopter and Fixed wing hybrid Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL).
Adesanya added that topics on Hardware (Internet Supply); Software (planning, data capturing and processing); Preflight preparations; Site applications; Troubleshooting; Tactical skills; and Practical manoeuvres would be discussed during the sessions.
While encouraging participants to be focused on acquiring new skills, Adesanya advised that the experience gained at the training should be put into practice on their jobs for better performance and improved efficiency that will boost the image of the Office of the Surveyor-General of Lagos State.
