LAGOS HEALTH SERVICE COMMISSION URGES HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS TO EXCEED PATIENTS’ EXPECTATIONS

… As Alimosho GH Reiterates Commitment To Excellent Service Delivery

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health Service Commission (HSC), Dr. Ademuyiwa Benjamin Eniayewun, has urged healthcare providers, especially those in government hospitals, to exceed patients’ expectations with adequate care during medical treatment.

Speaking at the fourth stakeholders’ forum organised by the Alimosho General Hospital with the theme: “Surpassing Patients Expectation”, on Wednesday, Dr. Eniayewun said outstanding service is the only way health personnel can meet and even surpass the expectations of members of the public, who expect quality performance.

He stated that the perceived gap between patients and healthcare providers will not cease to exist until the legitimate expectations of patients are met, adding that clients should be well-treated and served timely, through the provision of quality medical procedures, when they visit the hospital.

Dr. Eniayewun said: “Healthcare providers should realise that patients have legitimate rights that must be respected and accorded due attention by health givers. Health seekers are often not in a good state of mind whenever they visit hospitals for medical treatment, and as such, doctors, nurses and other health officials need to be patient in dealing with them and not add to their pains through lackadaisical attitude”.

On his part, the Medical Director of Alimosho General Hospital, Dr. Ayodapo Soyinka assured residents of Alimosho and its environs of the provision of enhanced service delivery, saying that with the crop of medical officers, infrastructure and equipment at the disposal of the hospital, the facility is poised to exceed the expectations of its patients.

He also highlighted the level of development and outstanding performance in terms of service delivery since his assumption of office as the Medical Director of the hospital.

His words: “In the last three months, the hospital has entrenched a leadership culture that is responsive, functional, effective and dynamic at all layers of management”.

“The hospital has introduced staggered appointment as pilot studies in paediatrics and medicine outpatient with an intention to create efficiency in delivering services with a view to scaling it up once we start recording success in the tracking of waiting time”, he added.

Dr. Soyinka also maintained that the hospital has embarked on a multi-million naira upgrade of facilities that would aid the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery.

According to him, the hospital is expanding its services with the introduction of temporary casualty extension, the opening of Diabetic Centre, Urology Clinic, Private Wards, World-Class Sickle Cell Centre, GI Endoscopy and Mortuary facilities among others.

He, therefore, assured stakeholders, residents and members of the public of the commitment of the hospital to do more in terms of service delivery by ensuring that the expectation of members of the public are met.

In his keynote address, the CEO and Founder of Monitor Healthcare Ltd. Dr. Femi Ogunremi, stated that before the hospital can surpass patients’ expectations, such expectations must be well-known and simplified.

He said this would go a long way in assisting the medical practitioners to know the strategy to adapt to meet the identified expectations, highlighting good communication as a key working tool for practitioners when dealing with their patients.

Dr. Ogunremi, therefore, implored doctors and other medical personnel to pay much attention to the expectations of the patients and attend to their needs respectfully and in a polite manner.

Patients present at the event expressed their profound gratitude to the State Government and the management of the hospital for its excellent and impeccable service delivery.
