PUBLIC SERVICE WEEK: FIRST LADY URGES PUBLIC SERVANTS TO EMBRACE HEALTHY LIVING
The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu has applauded Lagos Public Servants for their dedication and resilience, just as she encouraged them to continue to prioritise their well-being through healthy living.
Dr. Sanwo-Olu gave the advice during the ‘Walk for Fitness’ programme organised for public servants as part of activities marking the year 2023 Lagos State Public Service Week held today at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
In her words, “I am thrilled to extend my warmest goodwill to all of you participating in the Walk for Fitness event, and it gives me great pleasure to see dedicated civil servants like yourselves coming together to prioritise your health and well-being”.
She charged all public servants to always remember to take care of themselves, saying that engaging in regular physical activity is a wonderful way to maintain good health and vitality, as it will enable them to perform their duties with greater efficiency and enthusiasm.
She commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the legacy he left behind in celebrating the Lagos State Public Servants annually and for the continuity of successive governments.
Earlier, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola commended the public servants for their large turnout at the Walk for Fitness event, saying that it is not just about promoting physical exercise, but a testament to the unity and camaraderie within the civil service.
Muri-Okunola noted that “By participating in the event, you are demonstrating a shared commitment to leading a balanced and healthy lifestyle”.
He maintained that as part of the present administration’s commitment to improving the service, his office has approved the introduction and creation of six districts in the Lagos State Health Sector to be headed by Permanent Secretaries to underscore the evolution in the Lagos State Public Service.
Whilst maintaining that the state government will continue to reward merit and hard work in order to encourage efficiency among its workforce, Muri-Okunola revealed that the present administration’s focus is to prioritise training and retraining of Public Servants for increased productivity.
In his goodwill message, the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Obasa commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the positive legacy he left behind when he was the Governor of the State 23 years ago which his predecessors had improved upon.
He also applauded the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola for his effective leadership roles and steadfastness for improved service delivery amongst the Lagos State public servants.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. (Mrs.) Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin described the ‘Walk for Fitness’ event as an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of nature, the company of colleagues, and the joy of being physically active, adding that it will enable one to get closer to a healthier and happier future.
She, therefore, implored all public servants to continue to strive for excellence in both their professional and personal lives, knowing that a healthy body and mind are the foundations of a prosperous future.
The SSG also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continuous support of the entire public service.
