… Pledges Support for ‘Five Million Salute’ Campaign
The Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy has promised to render all necessary support to the planned ‘Five Million Salute’ campaign of the Nigerian Legion, Lagos State Command. The Campaign is to rally support for the welfare and to show appreciation for the supreme sacrifice and labour of the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who daily put their lives on the line, to protect the unity and sovereignty of our dear Country.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Olumide Sogunle made the pledge during the courtesy visit of members and volunteers of the organisation to the Ministry to solicit the Lagos State Government’s support towards the success of the ‘Five Million Salute’ Campaign.
Sogunle, represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Adesegun Ogundeji, thanked the team for the visit and the detailed presentation by the group on the proposed event, assuring the team of the full backing of the Ministry to ensure the proposed Salute Campaign gets the necessary media coverage and publicity.
He stated further that the Ministry will ensure that the State Government media stations and other publicity platforms support them with adequate media coverage needed to get their messages across to the public.
Earlier, the Public Relations Officer of the State Comand of the Nigerian Legion and Leader of the delegation, Mr. Olufemi George said the purpose of the visit was to seek the support of the Lagos State government through the Ministry for its forthcoming ‘Five Million Salute’ campaign.
He explained that the campaign, which will be one of the biggest campaigns in the history of the Command, would be held in September with the theme: “The Five Million Salute”, aimed at raising support for the welfare of the men and women of the Nigerian legion, who are finding it difficult to grapple with the challenges of life in retirement, after their meritorious military service.
George revealed that the funds raised from the campaign will be used to secure conducive accommodations and provide good healthcare for retired and disabled military personnel.
