FCT MANDATE SECRETARY COMMENDS LAGOS MWAPA
The Mandate Secretary, Women Affairs, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Dr. Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi has commended the efforts of the Lagos State Government towards poverty alleviation and empowering women to become economically independent.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (MWAPA) recently, Dr. Benjamin-Laniyi said she and her team were in Lagos on a working/understudy tour of some of the projects and programmes of the Ministry as it relates to women.
She said Lagos has always been a pacesetter and model state that everyone follows and learns from, applauding the various initiatives of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu being implemented by MWAPA.
The Mandate Secretary added that she draws strength from all of MWAPA’s programmes and would like them to be replicated at the Federal level, stressing that. Lagos has always set the pace for others to follow.
Welcoming the delegation to the Ministry, the State Commissioner for WAPA, Hon. Bolaji Dada said the Governor of Lagos, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sannwo-Olu is a gender-friendly governor and has always been supportive of all the women-related programmes which are all targeted at eradicating poverty while empowering women financially.
She said the Ministry presently has 19 skills Acquisition and 20 Vocational Centres, which are all tuition-free, where women are taught various skills and upon completion, they are empowered so that they can take off immediately.
Speaking further, Hon. Dada said Lagos is open to all who want to partner and chart a new course towards uplifting the indigent women of the state.
The highlight of the visit was the tour of one of WAPA’s Skill Acquisition Centres in Agidingbi by Dr. Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi and her team. She also used the opportunity to meet with specific Heads of Departments to brainstorm on modalities for future collaboration.
