LASCOPA TO OPEN ANNEX OFFICE IN EPE LG SECRETARIAT

In a move to enhance consumer protection services in Epe, the General Manager of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Mr. Afolabi Solebo paid a visit to the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Yemi Animashaun, on Tuesday, as part of its ongoing efforts to expand reach and ensure that the rights of consumers in Lagos State are adequately protected.

During the meeting, Solebo highlighted the importance of having a LASCOPA Annex Office within the Epe Local Government Secretariat. He noted that establishing such an office would bring consumer protection services closer to Epe residents, enabling them to lodge complaints and seek redress without the need to travel to the agency’s main office in Ikeja.

His words, “The establishment of an Annex Office here in Epe will significantly reduce the distance consumers have to cover to access our services. This will also ensure that issues such as product safety, unfair trade practices, and consumer rights violations are promptly addressed, thereby fostering a safer and fairer marketplace in Epe”.

Hon. Animashaun welcomed the proposal and expressed her support for the initiative. She acknowledged the vital role that LASCOPA plays in safeguarding consumer interests, noting that the presence of an Annex Office in Epe would be a positive development for the community.

“We are fully in support of this initiative as it aligns with our commitment to improve the welfare of our people. The closeness of LASCOPA closer to us will empower our consumers and enhance the business environment in Epe”, Hon. Animashaun stated.

The discussion also covered potential locations for the Annex Office within the Secretariat, with both parties agreeing to collaborate to ensure the swift establishment of the office pending when the Local government completes the renovation of some of its office spaces.

The visit underscores the Lagos State Government’s dedication to extending consumer protection services across all local governments in the state, ensuring that every resident has access to the resources and support needed to protect their rights as consumers.

LASCOPA’s outreach to Epe is expected to set a precedent for similar expansions across other local governments in Lagos State, as the agency continues to work towards a more consumer-friendly environment statewide.
