The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide has said that the upcoming Physical Planning Summit will bridge implementation gaps in the State Operative Development Plans (ODPs), prepared by the Ministry.
He said this in Alausa on Wednesday during a press conference on the inaugural Physical Planning Summit. Olumide added that different hierarchies of development plans, which include Master Plans, Model City Plans, Action Area Plans, and Development Guides, were prepared by the State through the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to address the sustainable development of Lagos State.
He averred that the physical development plans so prepared formed the basis of other sectoral plans such as the drainage master plan, water master plan, and strategic transport master plan, among others.
“The Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development is very important in the scheme of things as the Planning Ministry of the State. In fact, the Governor is the Chief Planning Officer, while the Ministry of Physical Planning is number one in the action plan of the State as no society can progress without Planning because all infrastructure developments take their roots from Development Plans”, he said.
Olumide further stated that the two-day summit would identify and address challenges confronting the implementation of proposals in the ODPs and position the State for investment as proposed in the planning documents while exploring options available for implementation of the State Master Plans for sustainable development.
He said that the summit would create the platform for stakeholders’ participation in planning environmental sustainability, adding that it would give room to hybrid participation as stakeholders can join online and get updates through https://eventsrail.com/lpps24
Speaking further, he said that the speakers and discussants at the summit would include international and local experts in urban planning, policy-making, project development and risk analysis, as well as legal frameworks, project finance and governance.
He disclosed that the summit, which would be held biennially, has designed a mechanism for implementation and evaluation.
Present at the press conference were the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso; Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Engr. Oluwole Sotire; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Olumide Sogunle; retired Permanent Secretary, Tpl. Ayodele Adediran; General Manager, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, Tpl. Kehinde Osinaike and General Manager, Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority, Tpl.
