EPE CHAIRPERSON DECORATED AS GRASSROOTS TB CHAMPION, AMBASSADOR

The Chairperson of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun, has been decorated as the Community Champion and Ambassador for Tuberculosis (TB) elimination within Epe Local Government.

The decoration ceremony took place on Tuesday at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, at an event presided over by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu. The event also featured the inauguration of the Lagos State TB Steering Committee and the Lagos STOP TB Partnership.

Apart from Princess Animashaun, other female Chairpersons of Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) were also decorated as TB Champions and Ambassadors in their respective council areas.

Furthermore, the wives of LGA and LCDA Chairmen were mandated by the First Lady to lead grassroots advocacy towards TB eradication, leveraging their unique positions as women and spouses of council chairmen.

As a symbol of their investiture, all TB Champions were decorated and presented with roll-up banners to enhance the campaign and boost public awareness about free TB diagnosis, treatment, and support for patients.

Animashaun described her investiture as a call to action and pledged to work closely with the First Lady to achieve the goal of eliminating TB in Lagos State.

She also promised to implement policies and mobilise resources to support TB control programmes while fostering collaboration between government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and community leaders to strengthen the fight against TB.

She emphasised the critical role of community involvement in identifying and treating TB patients, noting that the spouses of Local Government Chairmen can play a pivotal role in the initiative.

The Epe Council Chairperson expressed her gratitude to Dr. Sanwo-Olu and all stakeholders involved in the fight against TB, reaffirming her commitment to achieving a TB-free Lagos.
