The Randle General Hospital, Surulere, with the support and partnership of philanthropic groups like Esteemed Life Savers, Sick Kids Hospital and Sammy Foundations, has undertaken a one-day blood donation drive in Lagos.
Speaking at the event held under the theme: “Donors Are Heroes” which took place inside the Maternal and Child Care Centre, Gbaja, Surulere, the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Olumide Sojinrin explained the importance of blood in the life of individuals, especially when in critical condition.
Emphasising that “Blood is Life, and Donors are Heroes”, in line with the theme of the programme, Sojinrin said the event was also aimed at raising awareness about blood donation and replenishing local blood banks to support patients in need.
He thanked the groups for the overwhelming support and kind gestures while expressing his appreciation to participants, saying, “We are thankful to everyone who participated. Every donation helps ensure that our hospitals are equipped to provide essential care to patients in critical situations”.
Earlier, Dr Abosede Adabale, Consultant, Haematology Department, appreciated the blood donation drive initiative that started three years ago by The Esteemed Life Savers, which has indeed paved the way for other Foundations like the Sick Kids Hospital and Sammy Foundations to join, in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration in Lagos State.
The Consultant also applauded the State Government for creating an enabling environment and the Medical Director for his caring leadership style. She also eulogised members of staff of the hospital for their support and believability in the programme.
The blood drive saw an impressive turnout from people within the Surulere environment and beyond, all eager to contribute to the life-saving cause. Attendees were provided with free health screenings, refreshments, as well as other life-saving advice towards forestalling unpleasant situations.
The organisers, particularly the Randle General Hospital Blood Transfusion Committee, extended their heartfelt gratitude to all donors and volunteers who made the event a success.
