TESCOM TRAINS TEACHERS ON ESSENTIALS OF SUBJECT DESIGN, TEACHING METHODOLOGIES

As part of the effort of the State Government to deepen the teaching skills and techniques of intermediate teachers on Grade Level 10-12 in the State Public Secondary schools, the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has organised a Two-Day training programme at the State Teaching Service State Development Centre, Owutu, Ikorodu.d

Declaring the workshop open, the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino charged the participants to open their minds to unlearn, relearn and continually search for knowledge and information on trending issues, processes and procedures that can be put into the teaching of students which will ultimately improve their output in various examinations.

Mrs. Peregrino disclosed that the Workshop with the theme: “Essentials Of Subject Design And Teaching Methodologies For Effective Improved Performance In STEM, Languages And Social Science For Intermediate Teachers On GLs 10-12”, was another training package by the State Government to encourage and constantly educate teachers to meet the ever-evolving teaching challenges in the 21st-century educational system.

She noted that as new teaching skills are evolving every day, teachers also need to be abreast with these skills if they must excel in their chosen profession, stressing that the State Government will not rest on its oars to constantly train and equip teachers with necessary teaching skills.

She said, “This Two-Day workshop was carefully and thoughtfully planned towards how best to improve the performance of teachers in the teaching of “STEM” which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics as well as Languages and Social Science subjects in public secondary schools”.

“I, therefore, urged you to develop skills and techniques that will encourage students in public secondary schools to pick up interest and excel in science-based subjects by demystifying with simple teaching techniques of the subject matters”.

Participants at the workshop, which was facilitated by Roomy Outsourcing Nigeria Limited, were mainly intermediate teachers on Grade Levels 10-12 in the State public secondary schools across all the education districts.

A communique is expected at the end of the training programme on the 16th of October, 2024.
