SANWO-OLU, WIFE, OTHERS HOST LAGOS STATE ONE DAY GOVERNOR 

… As Governor Promises ICT Lab for Oriwu College 

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu alongside his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and top government officials, on Monday, hosted Abdulazeez Abdulrahmon, the overall winner of the 20th edition of the Spelling Bee Competition, who emerged as the One-Day Governor of Lagos State.

Abdulrahmon, a student from Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, was received by Governor Sanwo-Olu and his wife during a courtesy visit on Monday at the Lagos House, Marina.

The One-Day Governor was accompanied by his team members, the One-Day Deputy Governor, Master Oki Sewanu Coordinator of Ansar-Ud-Deen Senior Grammar School, Badagry, and the One-Day Secretary to the State Government, Miss Saheed Alimot-Odere of Jubilee Model Senior Grammar School, Coker Aguda. 

During the visit, Governor Sanwo-Olu congratulated the students for their remarkable achievements, noting that the Spelling Bee Competition has continually fostered confidence and vocabulary development among participants. 

At a subsequent reception at the Exco Chamber, Lagos House, Ikeja, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who received the one-day Governor and his team members on behalf of Governor Sanwo-Olu, urged the students to emulate past winners who have excelled in various fields. 

He described both the present one-day Governor and the past winners of the Spelling Bee Competition as shining examples of the State’s commitment to nurturing future leaders.

He advised the young leaders to stay committed to positive change and be proud representatives of Lagos State. “You should be proud of being products of Lagos State, and be determined to change any negative narratives about our country,” he said.

Responding to Abdulrahmon’s request for an ICT Laboratory for Oriwu Senior Model College, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured him that the project would be carried out. He directed the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, to begin work on the request.

The First Lady, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu alongside the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, encouraged the students to continue pursuing academic success, assuring them that the government will maintain its commitment to creating conducive learning environments across the state. 

Dr. Sanwo-Olu also introduced the students to various initiatives led by her office, including the War Against Drug Abuse, Fight Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, Lagos Boy Child Initiative, and School Support Initiative.

Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, also commended the government’s investment in education as a means of securing the future of Lagos State. 

He assured the students of opportunities within the public service, stating, “There is a reserved place for you within the Lagos State Public Service upon completing your education.”

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun informed that the official tour undertaken by the One-Day Governor and his cabinet was aimed at broadening the knowledge of the young leaders in providing valuable experiences that would benefit their future careers.

Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Mr. Remi Abdul, lauded the sustained efforts to keep the One-Day Governor initiative alive. 

He noted that the competition, which saw Abdulrahmon emerge as the winner, was keenly contested across zonal and state levels, serving as a morale booster for students.

The One-Day Governor expressed gratitude for the warm reception and described the experience as enlightening and unforgettable. 

While noting that the experience garnered across key government offices was an eye-opener that would forever be cherished by him and his team members,

Abdulrahmon thanked the State Executive Council for their support and encouragement.

The one-day Governor, his team members, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye and top officials of the Office of Education Quality Assurance(OEQA) led by the Director, Planning Research and Statistics, Mr. Remi Abdul, later visited the Office of Chief Judge of Lagos, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, the Headquarters of Lagos State Education District II, among other important places.
