The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has identified the need to improve productivity to restructure wastewater management in Lagos State and implement the Five-Year Strategic Action Plan of the Agency (2025-2030).
Declaring open a three-day retreat held recently at the Dover Hotel, Lekki, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources Mr. Tokunbo Wahab said that the retreat will assist the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office to develop staff competence, boost confidence and prepare effectively to contribute towards the implementation of the strategic action plan (2025-2030).
While noting that the retreat is the first of its kind, the Commissioner expressed hope that the Agency will entrench the rich knowledge that will be gathered from the retreat to move the State forward in the sanitation sector of the State.
He emphasised that the retreat with the theme: ”Restructuring Lagos State Wastewater Management Office towards the Implementation of the Strategic Action Plan (2025-2030)”, is in line with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu THEMES Plus Agenda aimed at achieving a #Greater Lagos.
The Commissioner maintained that as the state’s sanitation infrastructure evolves, there is a need to shape the future of sanitation and public health for millions of Lagosians.
He continued that the three-day retreat should be tailored to do more than review policies and frameworks but also redeem the image and align strategies for groundbreaking outcomes.
Wahab, therefore, urged all participants at the retreat to utilise the various interactive sessions handled by qualified resource persons and development partners as avenues to rub minds and share ideas and knowledge on how to make sanitation businesses in Lagos thrive.
Earlier in his opening address, the General Manager of LSWMO, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi promised that the three-day retreat would be technically impactful as all the resource persons in the scheduled sessions are seasoned professionals in the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector from within and outside the country.
Engr. Afolabi said he was delighted that the retreat is coming at a time that the Lagos State Government, under the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, is giving due attention to sanitation matters as an integral component of the Health and Environment pillar of THEMES Plus Agenda, which is also a testament to the MoU signed with Messrs Jospong Group of Companies earlier in the year.
The General Manager emphasised that as the Agency strives to chart a new course for Lagos State Wastewater Management, it is pertinent to note that hygiene and sanitation are critical to human health, survival and economic development in the State.
