BUDGETARY ALLOCATION DETERMINES INTERVENTION – LASIAMA

The General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA), Ms. Adenike Adekanbi has revealed that the Budgetary Allocation to the Agency is the main determinant of its various interventions across the State.

Ms. Adekanbi disclosed this in a statement issued by her office to highlight the procedural nature of the renovation/rehabilitation of the infrastructure process.

She explained that LASIAMA has been at the forefront of implementing the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration’s strategy on infrastructure renewal.

In her words, “The Agency has implemented several projects to improve and maintain public infrastructure assets, creating employment and opportunities for small/medium-scale businesses to thrive”.

Adekanbi emphasised that LASIAMA engages in the rehabilitation and facility management of government buildings, which would have been compiled from requests forwarded by the various MDAs in the previous year

She submitted that LASIAMA’s budgetary allocation, like those of other MDAs, is based on the budgetary envelope approved by the Lagos State House of Assembly and assented to by Mr. Governor, which is then allocated to the already collated projects and programmes.

Adekanbi stressed that LASIAMA does not hold funds for unbudgeted renovation projects as assumed by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“What we do in LASIAMA is to proceed with rehabilitation work as per the requests and budget allocations provided to them. If in a year, we get requests from MDAs, we put that in work to be done in the subsequent year”, she reiterated.

The General Manager pointed out that the clarification becomes necessary amidst concerns regarding assumptions from some MDAs on the allocation and utilisation of funds for renovation projects.

She said, “LASIAMA’s emphasis on following established procedures and utilising allocated budgets reflects a broader effort to ensure efficient and responsible use of public funds while meeting the infrastructure needs of government agencies”.

This commitment, she noted, underscores the Agency’s role as a facilitator in the government’s efforts to improve and maintain public infrastructure across various sectors.
