GENERAL HOSPITAL IJEDE MARKS WORLD HEALTH DAY
· MD Advocates A Healthy Planet
The Medical Director/CEO of General Hospital, Ijede, Dr. Abimbola Sunday Okudero, has emphasised the need and urgency for every individual to maintain good personal hygiene, as well as keep the environment, community and planet earth friendly and healthy at all times.
Dr. Okudero made this known as part of activities to commemorate the year 2022 World Health Day, themed: “Our Planet, Our Health”.
According to him, unsustainable activities like deforestation, land degradation, desertification, indiscriminate waste disposal, open defecation, oil pollution among others have adverse effects on human health and well being.
His words: “When we engage in these activities, it affects the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat and can cause emerging and re-emerging diseases like cancer, asthma, heart diseases among others”.
While noting that engaging in physical exercises and eating balanced diet can help make us healthy, keep our organs awake and help us live a normal life, the Medical Director affirmed that concerted efforts through regular sensitisation and advocacy at all levels of government, stakeholders, community leaders and individuals should help protect the planet from pollution and degradation, as this will go a long way in achieving the objectives of this year’s World Health Day.
The high point of the event was a sensitisation campaign held at Elepe community, Methodist Primary School, Elepe and other neighbouring communities.
The World Health Organisation designated every 7th of April as the World Health Day.
