The General Hospital, Ifako-Ijaiye, has held a two-day training and development workshop for staff across Departments in the hospital as part of efforts to impact staff performance and improve their productivity and efficiency in qualitative and affordable healthcare delivery.
Addressing participants at the workshop, the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Bamidele Mustapha, affirmed the State government’s commitment to staff training and development.
His words: “Our health care workers are valuable assets and it is worth investing resources for their acquisition of innovative ideas and skills to upgrade the quality of our services”.
While calling for attitudinal change and punctuality at all times, Dr. Mustapha charged participants to impact the training on their subordinates and also relate their experiences to them.
The Facilitator, a Lead Partner with Howes Consulting Group, Prof Lere Baale, identified mindset and attitude as the root of transformation.
“Transformation is a journey without a final destination involving the application of information and inspiration. Agile healthcare transformation will only take place when leaders and subordinates take absolute personal responsibility to transform their mindset, highlight positives, change their words and have the right attitude to work”, he said.
Prof. Baale explained that effective transformation is altering mindset, harnessing motivation and shaping behaviour.
“As a 21st Century healthcare leader, you must be a lifelong learner, have passion for what you do, communicate effectively, practice what you preach and be committed to excellence. A Medical professional is someone who should communicate compassionately and clearly with patients and colleagues because it is a helpful part of the problem-solving process”, he noted.
The Head of Administration and Human Resource, Miss Ibilola Taiwo, appreciated the Medical Director for the training while acknowledging the workshop as first-of-its-kind in the hospital.
Participants drawn from all Departments in the hospital were awarded certificates of participation at the end of the programme.
