The Medical Director of Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, Dr. Samuel Ayodapo Soyinka, has advised citizens to cultivate the habit of eating a healthy diet and indulging in regular exercise for a healthy heart.
Soyinka gave the advice during an event cum sporting activity held to commemorate the Y2021 World Heart Day with the theme “Use Heart To Connect People With Heartbreak”, held recently at the facility.
He said the significance of the annual Heart Day celebration cannot be overemphasised, noting that the day is set aside to create awareness about possible problems of the heart, investigate the problems and profer solutions to resolving them because a lot of people are ignorant of the various heart imperfections.
The Medical Director stated that the majority of heart problems are acquired and many people are unaware when such complications set in, stressing that some are congenital and could be obviously innocuous until a certain period.
He explained that early detection prevents further complications and helps to prolong life expectancy, noting that common non-communicable medical illnesses like Diabetes, Hypertension and others mostly end up with complications of the heart.
Dr. Soyinka reiterated the importance of timely and appropriate checks on individuals’ hearts, especially during the present COVID-19 pandemic, as people with Diabetes and the likes are prone to the worst prognosis when it comes to the damaging disease.
Affirming the importance of exercise and a healthy diet in the overall functioning of the heart, Dr. Soyinka advocated adequate exercise, healthy diet, proper and regular check-up of the heart, stressing that these are very essential to a productive heart.
The Medical Director, therefore, urged residents in Alimosho Local Government Area and environs to visit the facility, which is well equipped with both human and material resources, for comprehensive cardiology tests and many more.
