For a week, the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital (LIMH) was involved in a series of activities to celebrate the Y2024 Service Charter Week, geared towards improved care and enhanced service to patients and members of staff alike.
Speaking during the programme held inside the Hospital’s Conference Room, the Medical Director of LIMH, Dr. Olufemi Omololu said the essence of the Service Charter Week is to celebrate the staff caring for patients.
He said, “For staff, work must be done, but must be done well at all times”, adding that people like him came into public hospitals to change the narrative and the culture surrounding public hospitals.
According to him, the need to actualise his goal encouraged him to embark on numerous staff development programmes, which encouraged them to take ownership, develop their skills, and treat hospital equipment as their own, in a “management by all” style.
Speaking further at the event with the theme, “Going Above and Beyond”, Dr Omololu charged the staff to embrace the family culture, feel at home, go for more knowledge, find their skill and develop it, do something extra, do jobs willingly and promptly as well as embracing the “REP” syndrome that stands for ‘Respect, Empathy and Professionalism’. He also eulogised the Service Charter Committee for putting up a well-coordinated event.
In the lecture titled, “Going Above and Beyond in Every Interaction With Patients at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital”, a Consult Founder, Miss Uforma Thomson counselled the staff on a positive attitude at all times for better image and patronage.
In the movie presentation for the Week, titled, “Something Like Gold”, members of staff were further reminded they were employed, in the first instance, to care for patients, and diligent duties must be performed at all times, irrespective of aggravation or provocation by patients.
